Art + Writing Experiences (AWE) program offers the opportunity for close observation of modern and contemporary art and includes one or more writing activities. All ages.

Discover Ekphrasis
Anna Abhau Elliott is a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) candidate in UNC Greensboro’s Department of Art. As a graduate assistant in the Weatherspoon’s education program, she has spent the semester developing ekphrasis (writing about art) resources for Guilford County School teachers and students. Anna has made great use of Weatherspoon’s new mobile tour technology. Click HERE for her video.

Focus on Visual Literacy

Understanding and analyzing ideas and information through images—rather than text—is central to developing visual literacy skills. Artworks are selected to foster collaborative, discussion-based teaching and learning in the galleries. All ages.

Learning to Look

Led by staff or trained docents, students explore the museum as they observe and interpret selective artworks. This tour is perfect for first-time visitors. All ages.

Guilford County School art educators and WAM tour guides, Tamra Hunt and Lauren Ward have teamed up with UNCG writing instructor and WAM tour guide Julia Ridley Smith to create fun activities for kids and families to try at home.
