UNCG Academic Visits
The Weatherspoon supports UNCG academic classes from all disciplines. Our academic programming team works with faculty members to design museum-based sessions as well as asynchronous assignments that center course content and support learning outcomes. Our team members can serve as the leads for class visits, but we also support faculty members in teaching on their own in the galleries.
Regardless of structure, we ask that all faculty members seeking academic visits, guided or self-guided, submit a scheduling request. The museum serves thousands of students each semester, and reservations ensure that each group gets adequate time and space.
Types of UNCG Academic Experiences:
- Self-guided gallery visits: Explore the galleries on your own, no museum staff/docent required after scheduling the visit
- Short museum introductions: Meet a Weatherspoon staff member or volunteer museum docent for a 5 –10 minute exhibition overview, then explore on your own.
- Guided gallery visits: Work in partnership with a member of the Weatherspoon academic programming team to design a class session focused on artworks in our current exhibitions
- Guided collection study sessions: Work in partnership with a member of the Weatherspoon academic programming team to design a class session focused on a teaching display created from artworks in the museum’s collection
UNCG Academic Experiences must be requested by the instructor of record. Priority for academic visits is given to UNCG courses, though we welcome requests from faculty members at other colleges and universities as well.
