Looking out across a distance, our eyes perceive a line where the sky appears to meet the earth’s surface. These horizon lines are a favorite of visual artists, who can use them to create vastly different senses of space and mood within an image. Place the horizon line low, and the world seems wide open, full of sky. Place the horizon line high, and the world seems to close in, blocking our view. Lay the line flat and all seems still, but tilt it and things seem in motion. As we all move together into the new year, what’s on each of our horizons?
