CANCELED: Ruth Beesch Lecture: Artist Saya Woolfalk

Thursday, Feb 20, 5:30PM - 7:30PM

DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE WEATHERSPOON ART MUSEUM WILL BE CLOSED WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY, FEB 19 + 20.

THE SAYA WOOLFALK TALK HAS BEEN CANCELED.

Location: Margaret and Bill Benjamin Auditorium

Saya Woolfalk’s work Untitled #3, from the series ChimaTEK, is on view this winter as part of the Making Connections: Art, Place, and Relationships exhibition. With installations, performances, sculptures, videos, and collages, artist Saya Woolfalk creates a fictional world of hybridized creatures—part plant and part human—called the Empathics. These female beings live in a continuous state of transformation as they try, through science and ritual, to bring a future utopia to the present. Drawing on science fiction and fantasy, the story grows out of the artist’s interest in hybridity and her curiosities surrounding boundaries and wholeness: “I’m always thinking about the potentials for the body. What can we be? Who could we be? Who could we become?”

Join us to hear the artist speak and to gather for conversation and light refreshments after.  This event is FREE. Seating is first-come, first served.

There will be ASL interpretation at this event.
