Thursday, May 23, 5:30PM - 7:30PM

REGISTRATION IS FULL FOR THIS EVENT. WE ARE NO LONGER TAKING RESERVATIONS.

Join WAM assistant curator Hannah Southern in conversation about the character type of the odalisque in the Weatherspoon’s collection. We will examine the odalisque in Orientalist art and explore how contemporary women artists, including Lalla Essaydi (2024 Falk Visiting Artist), grapple with this persisting stereotype in their artwork.

6:30-7:30pm: Light refreshments and conversation in the WAM atrium.

This is an in-person event and space is limited, registration is required. Parking at the museum is free.
