Why Volunteer at WAM?

More than 100 volunteers are needed annually to help WAM host special events like our Annual Summer Solstice Party, assist with clerical tasks, greet visitors, and teach in our galleries.  We are always adding to our list of volunteers for the Weatherspoon. Qualified candidates should possess a love and appreciation of art, a flexible attitude for dealing effectively with the public, some knowledge of computer use, and an understanding that reliability is critical.

Become more than a visitor...contribute your time as a WAM volunteer today.

Learning & Teaching to Look

Docents are a special dedicated group of volunteers trained to engage with visitors of all ages. Through the Learning & Teaching to Look program, docents learn interactive and multi-modal strategies for observing and interpreting modern and contemporary artworks. WAM volunteer docents are responsible for providing free, guided experiences to nearly 5,000 school age children and adult learners annually.

Community Volunteers

Volunteers perform a broad range of functions in a variety of departments across the museum. From greeting and assisting visitors at public programs and special events, to work as front desk greeters, our volunteers work alongside and in support of staff to further the mission of offering art to everyone. Each volunteer opportunity is different—with its own unique set of responsibilities and therefore requiring its own unique mix of relevant skills and experience. Click here to volunteer.
