SUMMARY:Sunday Best: Celebrating William H. Johnson
DESCRIPTION:As part of the programming for Fighters for Freedom, the museum will open on two Sundays this fall. Drop by in the afternoon to see the paintings, attend informative panels about the works and themes featured in the exhibition, and contribute to the Conversations in Black Project by bringing photographs and ephemera to digitize and add to this online collection chronicling African American contributions in Greensboro. Refreshments will be served.\nOn Sunday, October 19, the featured panel will take place from 2-3:30 pm:\nArtists’ Conversation: Roymieco Carter and Steven Cozart\nJoin Greensboro artists and educators Roymieco Carter and Steven Cozart in a conversation about their individual and collective approach to their art. Listen in as they share about their trajectory, process, and current exhibition as part of the Chop Shop Artists Collective, Chop Shop: We Are Here. This conversation is presented in the context of the exhibition Fighters for Freedom: William H. Johnson Picturing Justice and serves as a contemporary lens through which to view themes of representation, cultural recognition, and art-making as a Black artist, then and now.\nASL interpretation will be available for the panel discussions.\nThis program is presented in partnership with the UNCG African American and African Diaspora Studies Program (AADS), the DigitalGreensboro.org community archiving initiative, and the project Conversations in Black: African American History and Heritage, Greensboro, NC.\n \n
